Natural Light Projection Experiment

Kaelin H.

I wanted to experiment with natural light projections that you see in everyday life. I chose to just walk through certain places and just record to see what unique light shapes or shadows were created by moving through different lights. Filming at night was also really rewarding with the amount of unique shapes and shadows and light tones and values were visible at night. Having the clouds in the one video clip was really cool to see natural light projection of the moon behind the clouds to see all those funky shapes and amazing colors. My shadow is also visible in many shots and its interesting to observe how it morphs and distorts. Using the absence of light as my main subject was kinda cool.

Evelyn Eclipse Projection

For this light projection project, I wanted to create an immersive piece of art that viewers could experience. I chose to document the total solar eclipse with an insta360 camera as a time lapse. For those that were not able to personally view the total eclipse, it provides an opportunity to immerse themselves into the moment. For those that watched the solar eclipse in person, it allows them to relive their experience. Ultimately, it accessibly creates a way for anybody to watch an awe-inspiring and rare event.

Light Project Dillon

My initial thought upon viewing the inside of the dome was to create an artificial experience of something natural – something you don’t see every day. I eventually settled on a roofed-forest because I wanted to see how it would feel being covered with dark colors with only beams of light colors shining through. I never made it to the room to test it out, so unfortunately I have no idea if this actually works, but I am looking forward to trying it out.

Light Project Taryn

For this project I wanted to convey an underwater experience. I chose to use the little mermaid as characters for my video because I thought it would be interesting to see how it would turn out. I enjoyed experimenting with this and different uses. I tried taking a panorama but I thought a video would look cooler. Overall I enjoyed experimenting with different approaches of light projection.

Light Projection

For my projection assignment, I created a moving animation of a a solar eclipse in celebration of the April 8th event. I animated this together in DaVinci Resolve using stock footage and photos, and simply used keyframes to animate the movement. The animation can be looped to have a continuous sequence.

The adventure of a to-go container

It’s dinner time, and Connor is hungry. He grabs his to-go container, as viewers are shown what the to-go container sees during the expedition. Connor makes his way across the path, into the building and up the spiral staircase, straight to the cafeteria. The container is opened by the patty station, as Connor lays out a cheeseburger, and makes his way to the exit. After the travels back to the dorm, dinner is served, and the burger is enjoyed as the to-go container awaits its next journey. The visual elements of this video are utilized through perspective, such as the spiral staircase and the burger-eating. I chose this concept as a creative means of utilizing the “POV” aspect of something, with the 180 degree vision.

Light and Space

“The Power of Darkness” is a short film create by Christine Ursiny that answers the question ‘what power does the dark hold over us?’ The honest answer I found when filming is that the dark holds our thoughts and emotions. Why do I say that? It’s the culture that surrounds the dark. When the street lamps comes on its the cue to go home, for some the dark represents peace for other it represents fear. The truthful answer is the power of being alone. Alone with our thoughts when the world quiets itself. The dark though beautiful as it may be it carries an air of self-reflection. The time of day when everyone returns from whence their day started.

Light Projection

For this project I decided to create an underwater animation. This animation is of a dolphin showing its tricks and of a jellyfish swimming up to the surface. The project was first made in illustrator and then was imported into adobe animate to animate it. In the next project, If I could change anything I would have added more to the background so that it wasn’t just the seaweed, the sand, and the water. Some aspects I will use on future projects would definitely be the programs I used to create the animation.

Light Project

The light in this short video was an iPhone flashlight. I experimented with using a large spotlight, but the building was very blurry. There wasn’t a clear outline of anything. In the video, I used Jenga blocks to create a building with windows. The building fell down due to an earthquake. Shortly after, construction workers come up with ladders and build the structure back up. I took pictures of each movement and made it into a stop-motion video.
