Review 4

For this final review I chose to review Rock & Brew’s website in comparison to my group’s website. The overall aesthetic of the website is very similar to my groups website. On the Rock & Brews website, they have a lot of black and red throughout the website. They have a banner across the top of the website that has lots of rock and roll bands posters. The fonts they have chosen to use are bold and bulky looking, but fit the aesthetic very well. The overall layout of the website is very pleasing to the eye, and keeps the user interested in seeing what else the website has to offer.

The navigation of the website is pretty standard in the sense of having a toolbar on the top. On the toolbar they have Foods & Brews, About Us, Shop, Promotions, and Franchising. When you mouse over the Foods & Brews and the About Us tabs, there are several more smaller options that appear below the main tab to navigate you to specific parts of that tab. All the font on their page is very easy to read and easy to navigate. They as well on top of the toolbar have a search box to find locations closest to the user. All the tabs that they have on the website are very straightforward and easy to access and use.

My groups website Black Diamond compared to the Rock & Brew is similar, yet far different. The Rock & Brew website has a feeling that I’d like for my groups website to have a little more of, positive space. I feel like, when people think rock n roll, they think of posters everywhere, black and red, grungy looking things, and I feel as though my groups website is little too clean cut to be a rock n roll based website. Rock & Brew has more of an edgy look while still being professional, and my groups is far too professional. We took this a bit too serious and didn’t have enough fun with it like we could have. Our website does stand out though, from our promotions page. We have pictures of real people enjoying themselves out on nights out (all of which are my friends and family who allowed me to use their pictures).
Overall, the Rock & Brew website is very easy to navigate, has a nice on brand layout, fitting color scheme, and was very aesthetically pleasing. rockandbrews.com gives a typical rock n roll experience, and Black Diamond gives an edgy feeling while also keeping things simple and sweet.

I chose to review no9park.com and primantibros.com. Both websites seem to be setup in a similar way when you scroll down the pages. No. 9 Park is displayed in a simplistic and effective way. It gets their message across, without too much being flashy or in your face. When scrolling down the page, the website tells you about the location, the team, and gives you ways of keeping up with the restaurant on social media, contact information, hours, and links to other parts of the website. At the top right of the website, there are tab options in simple and readable font. The tabs are, “Reservation”, “Menu”, “The Bar Room”, “Private Dining”, “Wine Program”, “Cocktail Classes” and “Upcoming Events.” All of the tabs work and link appropriately to their respective categories. When mousing over the tabs, they change to a darker color to emphasize that you are on the correct tab and make sure you are clicking on the right one. When you are on said tab, the color changes to a light blue color to show you which tab you are currently on. The light blue color keeps with the color scheme the website has going on. Everything on the screen is very balanced, centered and put together. There is a lot of negative space that works well with helping keep things balanced and adds to their simplistic look.

The other website I looked at was Primanti Bros website. It has a similar setup with scrolling down the page and having a landscape setup as you scroll. On this website, there’s not a lot of negative space used like in No. 9 Park. They have a lot of pictures that fill out the screen in different sections explaining different things. They have some tabs in the upper right of the screen similar to No. 9 Park, but they function a little differently. The tabs they have are the, “Locations & Menus,” “Order Online,” “Our Story,” “Promos,” “Shipping,” and “Jobs.” When you mouse over their tabs, a box will appear around the tab to clearly show which tab you are mousing over. When you are on the page you select from the tabs, it does not change the color of the tab like it does on No. 9 Parks. The logo on the top of the page gets bigger and brighter when you mouse over it, so you can click it to go back to the homepage. Everything on this website is as well balanced, but in a different way from the other website. Theirs is balanced with all the of the stuff they have on the pages, it brings unity to the website as a whole, keeping each page consistent. They put an emphasis on certain buttons on the page with a blue color. Everything else is mostly red, beige, or black, but the logo and social media for example, have a blue color to them to bring emphasis to them.

Both of the websites I’ve looked over and reviewed are both very pleasing to the eye, and function is different ways. They both are easy to navigate, clean and concise.

The website “Captain Marvel”, is the website I decided to take a look at for this review. It peaked my interest, because I myself am a Marvel Comics fan. When you click onto the page, it has a space theme, a picture of a few people including, Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, Kree, and Skrull, and as you scroll down, various other colorful and intense backgrounds, fonts, and graphics.

When navigating the website, you simply scroll up and down. There are tabs on the top of the screen that you can click on to take you to other various parts of the website. There are also boxes throughout the webpage that can take you to other things, like videos, games, a guestbook, and a place to buy tickets to see the new upcoming movie.

Design elements that make the website easy to scan, are the changing backgrounds. When you scroll down the website, the background will change, along with the kind of content that goes in with the background. There are also titles on each new background that tells you what that section of the website contains, and the titles all have their own unique font as well. This makes it easier to know what section of the website you’re on and you can quickly locate whatever information you’re looking for.

I like the creativity that went into the website, and how different every section is. But, I don’t think it was set up properly. There’s a lot of work that could go into making it a much better and stronger website. I like the vibe of it seeming like something that is coming straight out of the ‘80s, but it could’ve been done a lot better. The titles on each page are all crazy Word Art fonts that just seem to be too much. It doesn’t seem to be a professional website promoting the new Captain Marvel movie, so it’s more acceptable. But, there are a lot of things that could be done to make it more cohesive. There’s just a lot going on on the website, and it could become overwhelming after awhile.

Many people go online shopping as a means of getting the things they need anymore. It’s quick, easy and convenient. Usually, when you go onto a website to buy things, they have many sales, deals, and coupons readily available. Personally, I’m typically drawn to any kind of sale that is presented to me on the website, whether I need the item or not (one of my biggest flaws).

Growing up before “Amazon”, we used to order a lot of useless items on “ebay”. Ebay is a website, much like “Amazon”, but not as widely used anymore. When you first go onto the website you see a large self-advertisement box that shows what deals they have going on. Under that, they have an “NBA” section, which I’m assuming is for “March Madness” which is rapidly approaching. Under that is a coupon for 20% off, and then a section on things that are trending on ebay, daily deals, and many other categories to help you navigate the website.

On top of the self-advertisement box, there are tabs and a search bar, which are fairly small compared to all of the website’s self-advertisement. I went on looking for a lavalier microphone for my filmwork. After you push the enter button to take you to find your item, the page shifts around to give you your results. Under the search bar now are options to find the item within your price range, which I like, considering I’m a college film major and don’t have a lot of money to spend on my equipment just yet. One the side of the results, they have filters, so you can find a specific brand, connectivity, type, form factor, and connectors – all of which are only specific to my search.

Being someone who is more equipped to knowing what I’m looking for, this is a very useful and handy tool. Everything is laid out simply and easy to navigate, and the aesthetic is good for keeping things simple, and not swaying to any specific gender or persons. They include pops of their logos color in their small category boxes, that are seen throughout the website homepage. On the bottom of their website, on all pages, you can find all of the information that you would ever need for the website; their social media, email, number, and various other information.

All together, it is a well put together, and reliable website. Everything is laid out in plain sight, and easy to navigate. I’ve used the website a lot in my life to buy simple things from toys, to clothes, to CDs and DVDs, to film equipment. I’ve never had any problems with finding anything I’ve needed, and have definitely spent way too much money on this website.
