Game review

Kelsey’s and Grace’s game

Was it fun? Yes I thought it was really simple and fun to play. What made it better is when somebody could not solve a riddle so the players just end up grilling each other. The interactions were funny to be honest, just everyone trying to solve some of the riddles is awesome. I can not talk because I don’t think I got one right. To learn the game it took under two turns for me at least. Honestly everything is very simple and easy to learn and I cant really think on anything that can be improved. You know you did a good job when Owen can’t exploit your game somehow.

Game prototype review

The way play testing affected me at least is the different ways people view the rules and game itself. For instance, I had Owen play test for me outside of class and he found a way to exploit every rule I made. Pretty much the game I made is for game players like Owen. It sucks that he was able to exploit all of the rules I made but without play testing none of us would be able to figure this situation out. If we were to release games like this without play testing, all of our games would fail because we need people like that to exploit the games in order to fix it and make it better. Other than that, all the other games I have played could not be exploited like that which is good.

Zombie Flux Review

Zombie flux is an interesting game to say the least. There are multiple ways to win the game and multiple way to mess up other players. One of the ways is reaching different goal cards. The players can use rule cards in order to change the rules in ways of benefiting or negatively affecting the players. Its a frustrating game for sure, don’t get me wrong. But I love the fact the rules and goals of the game change throughout it.

Forbidden island review

Forbidden island is a team building game which requires the players to work together in order to escape the flooding island. You go around collecting relics and trading with your teammates in order to escape the island alive. You have cards that can help you achieve that goal quicker by for instance the shovel thing where you can dig back up some parts of the island so it does not sink. You continue to do that until all the relics are at the exit with your teammates intact. Without your teammates or relics you will not be able to escape. Truly there is nothing I do not like. The game is perfect the way it is.

Catan Review

Fun game but its not fair when Professor Ames plays with us becausse he has an unfair advantage. All jokes aside, its a simple game that involves ruling the die to hopefully land on one of the squares that you have land on. There is definetly strategy involved in this because you can play it safe and just get the area near you or you can stretch your land out to claim more resources and get a bonus for having the longest road. It is a little rough though if you are not able to move because of the fact you will be extremely limited on resources. The trading factor fixes that a bit so you can get resources that are hard for the players to obtain. Overall i think its a fun game to play, I wish the land was bigger so the game can last longer.

Prototype 1 Reviews

Evan’s music game(sorry i forgot the name)

I like the simplicity of it. All it takes is everyone rolling the die to determine the amount of cards they get. With said cards, you use them to create music which is then played at the end of the game. I think its brilliant because I have never seen anything like it. I could see teachers using this for students to learn how to make music.

Connor’s Building game

Similar to Evan’s, its another game that I have not seen before. I like the fact that its a race to win and requires skill in order to do good. I loved how there was different difficulties as well with a variety of different pieces to build with. The instruction were a litle confusing at first when we played but overall I think it is great. I loved the idea of making like a blueprint with the help sheet attached to it.

photosynthesis

It’s a new kind of game to play for me. I like the use of the sun rotating around the board to give players certain unique advantages. On top of the you can strategize to put the tall tree in the center to block sunlight from other characters trees but your own. The only problem I see is that if there’s a new person playing the game, the other players can easily exploit this and win the game easily. I think it would be cool if there was a way to remove other players trees to slow their progress. Interesting game to play but I’m not sure if it’s the type of game I would play.

Shuffle each of your decks and pick up 7 cards to start with

Each fighter has a different type of fighting style and abilities, which include, (Speedster, Brawler, Tank, Marksman)

The fighters will require a certain amount mana to either attack or use and ability.

Be careful who you choose because the map can negatively or positively affect them in the field of play.

The player has to use the brawlers to defend themselves. The player has 20 health. Whenever the player’s health is gone, you win the match.

  • Actions players take

Draw a card whenever it’s your turn. Either choose to defend yourself or attack. Optional to use an item card to help you.

  • Ending the game (win, lose states)

  • Examples

I just attacked with my fighter and it defeated the opposing player’s final fighter, therefor I win, or I attack the player because there’s no fighters out there currently. I attacked the player and they ran out of health.

Some of these I may have mentioned last week. Just FWI

A bomb war.

It’s a game me and my friends made when we were in high school and never really finished making it. It’s similar to the card game “war” where the players draw from a deck and play a card. Higher card wins. The a bomb part is where an ace comes into play. The a bomb trumps every card other than other a bombs. Depending on the suit will determine if your a bomb is better or not.

Smash bros inspired game( still thinking of different characters to use)

The two players each have a deck filled with cards. Each turn the players draw two cards either being characters to put into the field of play or items that can negatively or positively affect the field of play or characters. There are different maps the players can collect that can again change how your cards are played.

Quickdash is a trivia based game with a few action cards. The trivia questions can be any topic but vary in points. During some of the cards the players may revive an action card that has to be played immediately. It can range from simple to more difficult tasks.

No name yet

I want to make a trouble in terrorist town card game. Role cards get handed out and the start of the game which tell the roles the players received. Sheriff, doctor, killer, bystander. Preferably played with a large group of players. Each round the players have to find out who the killer is. Each round the killer doesn’t get caught, the killer gets more progress until either he reaches the end or he kills everybody else. That can be avoided if the other roles vote him out.

Truth or dare like game.

The deck of cards contains cards with some sentences on there about the players. The player needs to fool the other players into thinking if it is real or not.

Ww2 game

On the board there’s the axis and Allie’s powers. You collect cards to either advance or retreat your soldiers.(Examples could be trains, planes, surprise attacks, artillery, etc) You can hold up to 7 cards to play with and strategically use them to either defend your country or push forward.

Super smash brothers card game.

The two players each have a deck filled with cards. Each turn the players draw two cards either being characters to put into the field of play or items that can negatively or positively affect the field of play or characters. Shocking potato

Simple game here with the only thing being you don’t want to have the potato when time runs out. Whoever has the potato when the timer stops is shocked and is out of the game. Last player in the game wins.

  1. In your opinion what should every game have? Why do you like your favorite game? In my opinion every game needs an end goal. The reason I love halo is because of the storyline and the way the story ends. Do it well enough and the designer is set to make a sequel to that story.
  2. List the games you’ve played and currently play. Halo ,call of duty, Mario kart, titanfall, Overwatch, battlefield, sims, animal crossing, legend of Zelda, Destiny, NHL, FIFA, nba, GTA, LEGO games, smash brothers, red dead redemption, Star Wars battlefront, rainbow six siege, csgo, valorant, and many more that I don’t want to write down
  3. Can you apply the three act structure to your favorite game? What is it’s pacing and how long do you find yourself in each act? I would say yes if you count the whole series. The pacing is slow until you meet the antagonist
  4. When coming up with ideas where do you find you start, with the metaphor or the mechanic? I say the mechanics because without the mechanics you can’t make the game in general.
  5. Over the course of this semester, who would you like to collaborate with and why? Carson because I want to be the house in gambling our points
