Write ten haiku about the various principles and elements of design; balance, proximity, emphasis, alignment, contrast, rule of thirds, unity, repetition, proportion, color, type, etc.
After writing your haiku, sketch simple compositions to compliment each poem and are representative of the principle they are about. Further, each sketch may only use simple shapes: squares, rectangles, circles, lines and filled with solid colors.
I’ll recommend using graph paper but blank is fine as well. Poems and sketches are due at the beginning of our next class. Not having sketches ready for class 3 will incur a 10% reduction of your final grade for this project.
