Review #3

The two sites I chose were very different. They were No9 Park and Six Penn Kitchen. No9 Park seems to be on the fancier side, while Six Penn Kitchen seems like a nice sit-down family restaurant.

Six Penn Kitchen has good continuity throughout their site. They use at least one big picture on every page with words either above it or underneath it, giving it a good balance. The color scheme is very monochromatic too, making it nice to look at. When looking at their menu, it is a one page site, so it is very easy to read. The menu items are a little close in proximity, but it doesn’t bother me too much. Overall, this site was my favorite because of the simplicity and how it was easy to use.

No9 Park was not my favorite. It also didn’t go overboard on the color, which made it nice to look at. However, I found it difficult to find the menu items. Also, it was lacking balance wise. It had the navigation bar on the side, which is fine; however, it had words right next to it and almost no pictures. This made it seem off balance to my somehow. It had good proximity throughout. I also think they could have made it more unified. Every page seemed different to me, which was off putting.
I liked the Six Penn Kitchen website a lot better. It was nice to look at and seemed like a restaurant I would want to order from. The No9 Park website was okay, but it also seemed stiff and some of their design was strange to me.

This site is for an advertising industry that produces award-winning content. The sites use of color is a little dull. It is just black and white with a little bit of pink and light blue thrown in places. I personally like it because of the simplicity. They do have a lot of texture, though. The black and white background on their landing page is a bunch of stars and constellations that move around, which make it very interesting. That is where the motion and texture end. There is another video further down that shows their work, which is a nice edition instead of a list. However, there are only black and white words the rest of the way down, which lost my interest at some place. I don’t think it was because of the color, but because of how many words were condensed into a small space. The site scrolls from top to bottom, which I like because it’s uncomplicated. They also keep the tabs off to the side, which I can not decide if I like or not, but it is interesting. The easy colors make it easy to understand while scrolling up and down make it easy to navigate. Overall, I like the site and the simplicity. I think it could use more pictures and fewer words, though.

It is a well-made site. It is easy to use and look at. You know what you are looking at immediately. Anything you want to find is easy to locate with the tabs. The video also makes finding information easy. They could obviously do some things better, but, overall, I like the site a lot.

RMU Sentry Media VS. USA Today Review

For my review, I decided to look up two news sites. They are RMU Sentry Media and USA Today. I am comparing them because I am part of RMU Sentry Media, and would like to look at different news sites to see how our’s compares. From there, we could either improve it, or keep on the right track.

A news site has to be designed in a way that it would be easy for reader’s to get to the section they desire to read. USA Today does this. They have all the news, entertainment, sports, and other sections listed at the top with tabs that are easy to see. As you go down, you can see the top stories and the important information that happened this week. The issue with this site would be the amount of pictures. The farther down you go, the messier it gets. There is less white space and the reader misses the content.

RMU Sentry media has a lot of white space. It also has the easy to access tabs. It’s pictures and graphics are nice and spaced apart. The problem I would have would be, that when you get deeper into the site, you find old hyperlinks that might not work anymore. Also, there is a lack of design. It is very repetitive, and lacks a lot of color that would make a site like USA Today get more views.

Both sites do a good job of getting the information to their readers in an easy way. However, while USA Today lacks in organization, they make up for it in design. The opposite could be said for the Sentry. The Sentry is nicely organized; however, it lacks color and design that could get it more views. Both sites are equally good at their jobs, and get a lot of views from their selected audiences.
