ARTM4210 Story telling with GIFs

Project 1: Stop Motion Gif

The goal of this assignment is to show your understanding of a narrative arch as defined by Gustav Frytag, and perspective in the dimensional and emotional sense as well as the subjective and objective sense.

Create two series of short animated GIFs. The first series must tell a story about you in the first person (subjective). The second series must tell a story about your partner in the second person (objective). Do this in pairs, so that you can swap stories.

For example: Student A goes to the market, Student B goes to a concert.

Student A would photograph scenes from the 1st person “I went to the market,” showing only what they saw through their own eyes on that journey. Student B would tell student A’s story by photographing events in the 2nd person “You went to the market” showing student A at the market.

Then Student A would tell student B’s story by photographing events in the 2nd person “You went to a concert” showing student B at the concert. Student B would photograph scenes from the 1st person “I went to the concert,” showing only what they saw through their own eyes on that journey.
